Health Savings Account Homepage

Overview

On December 8, 2003, the concept of Health Savings Accounts was created by the passage of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003. This program combines the lower premiums of a higher deductible medical plan with a tax-advantaged savings account. (See Government HSA brochure)

Some of these advantages are as follows:

  1. Contributions to the HSA are tax-deductible - - just like an IRA.*
  2. The money in the HSA grows tax-free.*
  3. Withdrawals for covered medical expenses are not taxed.* (click here for a list of qualified expenses)
