Overview
On December 8, 2003, the concept of Health Savings Accounts was created by
the passage of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization
Act of 2003. This program combines the lower premiums of a higher deductible
medical plan with a tax-advantaged savings account. (See

Some of these advantages are as follows:
- Contributions to the HSA are tax-deductible - - just like an IRA.*
- The money in the HSA grows tax-free.*
- Withdrawals for covered medical expenses are not taxed.* (click
